New PC build

Well.. I just put in an order for new PC parts via Amazon,. I have the money so why not get a new fresh PC. Parts:

I'm going for a solid AMD APU and if I need to add a graphics card I'll do that later on with the current one I have.

Yeah, I suspect that if I had developed a drug habit all those years ago rather than a computer habit, I could have saved a lot of money

i would verify mobo support for the ram you picked, especially with the fact you are going for 4 sticks. Boards can get finicky with 4 ram modules, so I tend to try to stick with 2 sticks if I can. So, maybe go 2 x 16GB for 32 or 2 x 32GB for 64. 64GB is a quite a bit of RAM, are you sure you need that much. I have 64GB in my main machine, as I run a lot of VM's for testing and learning. Sometimes I have labs going with 6 VM's running at the same time.

I checked it out and it's all good and I just thought I would max out the RAM this go around.. or as close to max as I could afford.

Was 4 X 16 much more expensive than 2 X 32?

The RAM you've purchased is certified for 4 sticks on the Asus QVL (qualified vendors list)? I see that there are some 4 DIMM sets approved. It may help that you have chosen the sensible DDR4 3200.

I checked the compatibility on the Asus site and it's good to go. That's the brand and model I'm gettig

As for the price, it's more expensive but I just thought what the heck. I'll get as much as my budget could take.

Glad that you're good with the RAM.

I'm surprised that 2 X 32 is cheaper, but you're fine. With 64GB, I doubt that you'd ever want more.

I just am making sure that I have enough for graphic artwork(photoshop) and when Win12 comes our way enough for that.

Check the fan clearance on those ROG Strix boards. I couldn't use those since my Noctua NH-D14 fan didn't clear the high VRM covers.

Doesn't the NH-D14 allow moving the front fan upwards to clear the RAM? I was looking at this cooler and I thought that I saw that feature, but I could be wrong.

It does and if it doesn't work out the way it should I have the stock cooler to use and that will fit perfectly

For the STRIX board I wanted to buy I would have to rotate the fan 90 degrees which is not optimal. I bought the Asus TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS WIFI which has VRM heatsinks compatible with the NH-D14. All works fine.

Your list says Arctic Freezer 7X. What cooler do you have?

The Freezer 7X is supposed to be only 110.5mm wide, which is less than the length (133.35mm) of a DDR4 DIMM. I believe that it won't overhang the VRM heatsink at all. It's a small cooler, but some online reviews suggest it should be OK for a 65W device like the 5600G.

I have the option of using the stock cooler that comes with the 5600G or the Freezer 7x. Either way I'm set and they should fit well.

I like the Freezer 7x because it should be easier to keep clean and with my cats it's a must.. lots of fur goes everywhere

Well.. I finally got it working and it's great. Other than a human error with the power cord to the CPU the setup was easy

On-board sound is really good these days. Depends what you want to do I suppose.

The one I have sounds a bit tinny and I like better sound. The previous MB had much better sound and the software had more options.

I figure I spent this much I might as well go all in.
