Solved Windows 11 left and empty 93GB partition?

When I installed Windows 11, it was on a blank 1TB NVME drive with no partitions. After the installation I am left with four partitions.

Disk Manager shows the following:
#1 = 100 mb EFI partition
#2 - 837 gb C:
#3 - 93 gb unallocated partition
#4 - 749 mb unknown partition (recovery? Does Windows user this space when doing a reset?)

I opened Diskpart to try to assign a letter to partition #3, but Diskpart does not agree with Disk Manager. There is no 93gb partition listed.





Why would windows leave a 93 gb unallocated space on my drive? Why doesn't Diskpart and Disk Manager agree with each other? Can I grow my 837 gb partition using the 93 gb space?

With some searching, I learned that this may have been created by the Samsung Magician software from my SSD 980 Pro drive. I have since reset Windows and haven't installed the Samsung software.

I still don't understand why Diskpart and Disk Manager don't agree.

Yes.

1. Right click the C:\ drive and choose "extend volume"
2. Then tell it to use the 93GB unallocated space.

Unallocated space is not a partition.

That is why diskpart list partition does not list it.

Unallocated is space that is not inside a partition.

Free space is unused space that is inside a partition

FYI Samsung Magician shouldn't do this without the user setting this option as this is an optional setting.

SIW2 explained one of the differences, namely that unallocated space is not partitioned space. As a result, diskpart does not list a partition there.

However, there is one additional difference. You may note that diskpart shows a small 16 MB partition. This is the MSR (Microsoft Reserved Partition) which is present on EVERY GPT disk, whether it holds the OS or not. Disk Management simply does not show this partition.

This is Over provisioning for Samsung and you should be able to activate manually
and Not by the app itself. Verify in the app that the OP has been activated or not.
You can re-use that space as @Ghot suggested.

I most likely had the software installed some time ago on an old Windows installation and set it that way. Tried installing the Samsung software again yesterday and it refused to even start. Samsung does not write good software.

+One for that opinion. Don’t like it; won’t ever use it again. JMHO.
