Seeking the Wisdom of the List: How do I get both Microsoft's Office Home & Student 2021 (which doesn't include Outlook) and Outlook 2013 installed on the same Windows 11 PC?

I reached out to Microsoft Support via Get Help. I was given two different versions of Outlook 2013; the install app and then the offline 2.1GB version. The support rep merely pointed out the message and suggested uninstalling Office 2021, installing Outlook, and then reinstalling Office. I did just that, but installing Office 2021 removed Outlook.

So I tried a more nuclear approach: This Dell Inspiron 3910 was wiped clean and Windows 11 Home 23H2 was freshly installed on a newly reformatted SSD. Then, I installed Outlook 2013. Then, I installed Office 2021 - which removed Outlook. Then - I tried to reinstall Outlook and got this:
2024-02-07 Outlook did not install.jpg

Is there some way to get both of these installed on this PC?

At my wit's end on this!!

Why Outlook ?? Could you consider another email client, plenty of free ones about ?

Microsoft's app Get Help chat rep has told me that Office 2021 and Outlook 2013 won't work together. Heck, at this point, they won't install on the same PC.

So, idgat, because it's already owned and is familiar to this user. Pretty simple, really, and it's not even used much at all, just for Scan to Email.

But, yes, the option to jump to another client has at least one option. Your recommendation(s), and perhaps why?

Well, it's not that "simple" if it doesn't work. The sun doesn't shine out of everything Microsoft, and with the changes in technology, using a computer is no longer a passive endeavour - everything is not going to work every time just because a user has done it that way and is used to that way. A user may have to learn to adapt, or get left behind, especially if trying to use outdated software that's 10 years old..

It's up to you, nothing more for me to see here.

A workaround could be to install outlook or office 21 in a vm and other on host.

There could be a performance overhead if you needed vm running all the time.

When Scan to Email as a feature works, it's great and I know some users who are lucky to have it work - they love it. That being said, it has failed to set up on many printers I've set up for other people.

Most people I know use Brother and some Brother printers use a version of ControlCenter for scanning and others use iPrint&Scan. Brother says that iPrint&Scan app will only work with Outlook on Windows and Mail in iOS. I have found Thunderbird to work on the Brother MFC-9970CDW laser thru ControlCenter4.

Of course, the option to Print to PDF exists under all Windows 10&11 PCs and older ones with a print-to-pdf app like CutePDF Writer. And that's what this user will do with his Brother MFC-L2710DW printer software.

I set up windows mail for a friend today, chose the new outlook option. I was very surprised in its features and that it looked and performed on par with my full fledged Office 2021 Outlook which has a lot of options I don't use anyway..

Hi glasskuter,
The New Outlook will not work with the Brother iPrint&Scan. It might work with one or more of their ControlCenterx apps, but I can't test it from my current location.

Still working on this issue. Trying to get CC4 to recognize the Default App for .EML, MAILTO, and all the other options for Outlook (new). Am currently uninstalling Thunderbird since Brother's CC4 Scan to Email and Windows File Explorer still use Thunderbird to create an email with the chosen attachment or scanned PDF. Will reboot and report back.

The Outlook (new) app isn't recognized by Windows as a valid app for File Explorer\Send to --> Mail recipient. Even though the default is set to Outlook (new) (which has a profile set up), Windows is inexplicably opting for Outlook (desktop version of MS365) instead. I doubt it will work for CC4's Scan to Email, either.
