I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but if not I am sure an obliging moderator will move it - thanks.

I manage both the village web site and the weather station it has (a Davis Vantage Pro 2 and Weatherlink software). The hardware collects the data from outside, transmits it to the interior module where it processes and displays it. It also stores the data and should, on command from the software, transmit it to a computer. That can be used on the web site to display various parameters.

Until some time ago, not sure when as it has worked perfectly for 20 plus years so I don't look at the data very often , all was well. Now it wont transmit the data. Having looked at various options and items it appears to be an FTP issue. I contacted my ISP, who is way beyond helpful having sorted things out for me that are certainly not within their remit, they have queried "I think it's because FTP is blocked via a browser, it's blocked for security reasons, does it give you any other options?"
The other options referred to I assume refer to ways of transmitting data.

This seems like a possibility as the Weatherlink log points to a failure to connect and as a test, I have found that Plesk won;t connect using the ftp.domain_name.org.uk URL (it used to) but it will using the FTP facility that is part of Dopus (Windows Explorer alternative).

I have been in touch with Weatherlink forum but while making several helpful suggestions, hasn't come up with a solution. I'm now a bit stuck so would welcom suggestions.

Hi there
Try FILEZILLA --free and uses sftp. Works on Linux and Windows.
Depending on your host system - if Windows also install from the add optional features the openssh server and start it. On a Linux host ensure https is installed and the sshd daemon is active.

Good thing also about filezilla --it uses the proper windows protocol so path names > 266 chars are displayed in full.

Thanks Jimbo but Dopus includes FTP which works OK. However for good measure I tried Filezilla as well., which was also OK .
So FTP apps connect to my web site files and folders, but Plesk doesn't. My ISP suggests it is being blocked by my browser (Chrome).
I don't know how the weather station communicates with the website but it would appear to do so via FTP so maybe it is failing for the same reason as Plesk.
